my filters are making me mad!

I have an aquaclear 150 for my 20 us gallon tank
I felt it wasn't doing a good enough job at keeping my water clear so i got an aquaclear 300. It got water clear in a record time but it was making a current that was way too strong for my fish.

So i removed and put my aquaclear 150 back in. after 1 day, water seemed dirty again so yesterday, i got an aquaclear mini to assist my 150 in keeping the water clear. it makes no difference!

So now I have 3 filters for a tank and none of them are doing a good job of keeping the water conditions good for my fish!

I'm going mad now as I've spent a small fortune on filters that are no good for me!

I have a pack of purigen to clear up the water and it helped a lot, but it's still not very good in my 150.

I also notice my 150 and mini, when i put the flow to maximum, the water overflows and falls back in the tank without being filtered... maybe that's the cause but I checked my filters and they are not clogged, plus my ac mini is brand new so it would be impossible for it to be clogged...

I also have these white strings growing on my glass that make it seem dirty. I don't know how to get rid of them besides scrubbing, but i have plants near the glass on the sides and i can't scrub there...

I'm going mad!

I'd hate for you to go out and buy yet another filter, but since the 150 was working, why not get two of those--and that's it? Possible for you to give the 300 and mini back--get your $$$ back?

I know nothing about "white strings." Will have to get an "expert" to help you out there.

well i took out some filter media from both filters and now they are flowing better

maybe this will help

as for taking the filters back, they won't take them without me beuying new media, which will be expensive!

anyway, I'll see if they work better with a faster flow when i get home after work.

I also did a water change to clear up water a bit. I'll have to wait to see if it works too!

at least my fish look happy, although my rams don't seem to enjoy the pellets i feed them as much as my bettas!
