Hey there. This is kind of a stupid question i think
Would be happy if you could help me out
3 Weeks ago i bought a 10gallon "betta" tank (betta is the brand) with an inbuilt filter. I'll provide some pictures as this might explain what it looks like:

Inbuilt tricle filter thing which takes up water through the tube then holes in a horozontal tube filters the water through a sponge. When i set the filter up i had one part which i didn't bother connected as my dad said it probably wasn't needed
Christ i'm mad i think this may have made a difference
I wonder if this part (the tube and black thing which you insert into a hole where water is flowing out) is vital to the functioning of the filter? Currently there is a rush of water coming from the filter which is swirling round the water a little. Perhaps this is messing it up
I'm really confused. Is it necessary to have this part connected?
I started my cycling process on the tank last week and i've seen barely any progress on it!
Maybe this is the problem for 2 weeks of wasted time
The instructions for it are poorly illustrated. Okay then i'll just pretend i'm blonde and assume i've done a very blonde stunt. Would appreciate your help greatly.
Cheers
