i got a external fillter with my tank off of ebay and i went to set it up and the impella bounces up and down and evry time it hits the cover it stops for mini seconds and then starts againt. the problem is its not making enough suction to such up the water so i tryed a new impella and it worked slightly better but was still bouncing. both the magnets have worne away and it can hold it good enough so its not spinnig fast enough. but can u change the magnet that the moter runs coz ive alredy got a new impella and the magnets on thats alot better

Very quick stupid question if I may. You say the pump isn't strong enough to suck up water. You have primed the unit haven't you, by sucking on the outlet pipe to start a syphon, and then waited until the filter is full of water before you tried to start it? I'm sure you know already that the filter needs to be primed before it can pump any water anywhere :good:

i filled the fillter u with water first and then sucked on the outlet pipe is that ok

I'd empty the hoses and the canister itself to start with. Get it plumbed up, and double check that the outlet hose is connected to the outlet port of the filter and visa versa. I've rigged up many externals, but I still make the mistake of connecting the hoses up to the wrong ports more often than I'd like to admit  Once that is done, suck the outlet for a few seconds until you hear running water inside the filter body. At that point, hang the outlet back on the tank and just wait for the unit to fill itself :good: Once it's full, plug it in and wait to see what happens. It's quite likely that the unit has not primed correctly given your priming method, and an air-lock is preventing the thing from starting  If that does not work, take the unit apart and post pictures of each bit in turn around the motor unit, so we can see if there is any damaged/missing parts in there that are causing your issues.

both of the pipes look exactualy the same how do i know which one gose to the outlet and which one gose to the inlet pipe

One should have an intake strainer on to avoid fish getting sucked into the filter. This one goes onto the inlet port. The other hose goes onto the Outlet port. :good: If only rigging the hoses was as easy to do as it is to write about  It's fun trying to work out which is which when you cannot see the other end of the hose  That's what I blame my hose rigging errors on anyway :p
