I know she probably has a while left but I just want to be sure first. I was wondering if anyone has any idea how long she has left?

Cheers,

i thought you knew your livebearer stuff and was the sites expert

doesnt look square enough to me yet to drop but not far away :good:

See that's the thing... I'm confused with her because she was really square last night but this morning she was just round again and then she went back to being square... It's confusing me because last night I also saw her birthing canal open but this morning it was closed again but now it's open again... Could she be waiting to give birth at night?

Cheers,
Alessa!

Mine gave birth at night. Maybe they are waiting...

That's what I'm wondering... She has only got bigger not smaller. Usually I can tell but with her doing this to me, I just plain confused.

Alessa!

I'm nowhere near the sites expert!

hi alessa if she was square last night and this morning she was round again i'd say its probably to do with food the fish Should say square the birthing canal is a Another indication that the fish is close to giving birth. although the birthing canal may be open the fish can still take some time be for it drops fry.

I got some updated pictures of her. In think I just caught her in the second one, if not then you get a nice shot of my oto.

The swordtail in that first picture looks quite close to a drop Alessa. Swordtail females never do get as large looking or as squared off as a platy or a molly. Instead they seem to keep a trim looking shape with only a hint of broadening. I find my swordtails the hardest of my livebearers to judge because I am aware of the lack of squaring off that they seem to have.
Mattlee, there are no experts here. We each have our own abilities and our own weaknesses. Some have more strengths than others but none of us are true professional breeders.

Oldman i totally agree. i dont think that anyone is an expert especially when it come to fish keeping etc, experienced yes but with things changing all of the time expert no...

i must have interpreted it wrong then

"welcome to the forum! I'm one of the common livebearer experts, though i can help with some other stuff. Common livebearers are guppies, swordtails, mollies and platies!"

Alessa x.

By that I basically meant I was good at breeding and raising them... Guess I should have probably worded it differently.

Cheers,
Alessa!

i dont mean anything by it i just thought that this was your field and thought it a little odd for you to ask about pregnant livebearers...... :)

I've never bred swordtails before so I'm not too good at telling when they are ready to drop. I have bred guppies, platies and mollies but not swordtails.

Cheers,
Alessa!
