I opened the top to feed them and my prized female Fancy jumped out and landed on the ground! I scoped her up in my hands and put her back into her tank.
She fell at least 3 feet! She is swimming around with the others but she seems abit off.
Is there anything I should be doing for her?

YIKES!!! i dont know how to treat for that kinda stuff sence im kinda new. but it kinda seems that every one else says a salt bath fixes most things. that or feed it a pea. but i dont think that will work

There is already salt in the tank. Also peas are used when a betta cant poop... Not for jumping :)

My betta did the same thing, flopped out of his cup while I was changing his tank, and then dropped from three feet onto the ground where I spent a few frantic minutes hunting for him when I came back with the clean tank and couldn't find him. He spent all total about 5 minutes out of water. I put him back in and he did not move a gill for 3 days, moved only his front fins for another two, and finally returned to normal about a week after that.

I would put a little melafix in there, and definately some stress coat. If she didn't die in the first five minutes of a busted gut then the only thing she's likely to die of is a compromised immune system. Guard her against sickness and replace her natural slime coat with some stress coat and she should be ok.

Well shes swimming around like normal now. I think shes going to be ok :) Thanks everyone for your help :)

oh my goodness, bettas are crazy :S

its always the females you hear about jumping too, wonder why that is

Ive had one of my males jump too but it was so weird that my female jumped. It was right in front of my face to! I screamed when it happened.
Now im scared to open the top to feed them! I open the top a crack and drop the food in LOL

I've wondered that too... maybe they can jump more easily because they don't have heavy fins like males? :dunno:

As for your girlie Mariah, I think she'll be fine if you keep her in warm clean water with a bit of salt. :)

Honestly, most of the time, a jumper that is caught and put back almost immediately is just fine. Mine have fallen three feet before, gone back into water, and been none the worse for the wear. They didn't even swim funny.

That's what I've always assumed when I've heard the 'jumper' stories . . . I tend to think of it as washing my hair when it was waist length vs. washing it now that it's shoulder length. Before, when it was wet, I could barely move my head or my neck would just scream from the effort. Now it's all free and easy
