I am new to the whole FISH thing and also to this forum... So Hello ALL!

I have a problem I think...

I have these two female guppies and according to what I have read on this forum they are pregnant... :D Although I'm not sure how pregnant -_-
However... I have purchase a net thingy to separate the "pregnant" guppies from my other fish. They seem to be attacking eachothers' belly when they are in there together! Are they meant to do that? :/ I bought them at the same time from the same store... and they didn't hurt each other before.... Are they even hurting each other?

I have temporarily put a thing to separate them in the net thingy... is that the right thing to do?
They are both big ...one is actually bigger then the other... but I am really confused as to how pregnant they are :S

They seem to be showing all the symptoms of a guppy that is ready to have babies but they haven't had any yet  I feel bad for putting them in there but when I let them out the males chase them and they try and hide....

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Hi texera,

Yep its natural for them to attack each other - they're trying to push the fry out from the mother so that they can eat them

They're unlikely to hurt each other, its the babies who will suffer :)

Hard to tell how pregnant they are without seeing a picture but a good guide is when you think they are literally going to burst, :) You say you seperated them in the net breeder -this would make their swimming space really small no ? I'm not sure quite what you have done, please elaborate

Guppies appear to be pregnant within a week of them giving birth, its only a matter of time before they drop the babies (about 28 days after the previous drop) so good luck and hang in there

Any more questions just ask :)

Thanks so much for respoding, :D
 that's kinda smart though very evil of them....re: trying to eat the babies

to elaborate....Umm.. their space is smaller now cos I have put a divider kinda thing between the net breeder ... :/ It was all I could think of at the time... Cos they looked like they were trying to hurt each other... :( I have a really small tank and another heater but no filter...but I do have something that blows bubbles (don't know what the technical term is)... should I set that up for her or for both?

I have enough water (ready for fish) that has been sitting in bucket for about 1 week. But I am worried that it might hurt the female guppies and their babies to change water or move them too much .... As for the last time she had babies? Ummm not too sure I have had her for maybe 3 weeks maybe abit more...

I will try and get you a picture tonight (um its is already past 7pm here) -_- so maybe in another hour and a half (I have to wait for my husband - he has the digi camera) then maybe I can get some sleep rather than waiting in front of the fish tank for a baby to pop out :)

thanks again William for replying :)

Okay... This is the best I can do... SORRY :/
I hope these are good enough for you to tell.... ummm are they even pregnant? -_-

Well they are all pregnant :) Female guppies are very rarely not pregnant :) To give an idea the guppy in this picture was very heavily pregnant:

She gave birth within a few days of the picture being taken - notice how large her mid section is.

From your picture I don't think any of your guppies will be dropping babies within the next couple of days the gravid spots just don't look large enough so I'd put them all back into their regular tank :)

thanks William!

I put them all back.... :) Thanks for your advice... I am sure they are both much happier now

I will refer to the picture if I am not sure :D
