My favourite bristlenose just died.....I found him this morning being munched on by my apple snail. What I dont get is that he used to seem really healthy, he was a very large bristlenose as well (about my index finger long) Ever since I changed him into my new tank (about a month ago) he seemed to get a bit lathargic. I introduced new fish etc etc but Ive kept all the water levels the same (expept the only change I can think of was that I was using 'stress coat' to condition the water instead of the old one I used in his old tank) I have a new female bristlenose who seems quite happy in this tank. He just seem to get a bit skinny and lathargic over the past week, those were the only tell tale signs. Any ideas? RIP Mr B.J.
:-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

Lethargy and inappetence are common symptoms of many diseases.
1) Poor watery quality. Check ammonia, nitrite, pH.
2) High levels of organic pollution.
3) Ectoparasite infestation. Check 2-3 fish for parasites or gill problems.
4) Early stage of bacterial disease. Examine fish for lesions, inflammation and ulceration.

That is all i can find on lethargy at the moment. I HTH

Very sorry to hear about your bristlenose, I have one too, Harry the Hoover, they are such loverly fish.

What size was he and what size was your new female that you introduced. I ask because I like bristlenose's so much I want to get two but my (good) lfs advises against it because they get territorial. I pointed out that if that was the case why does he have so many in a tank together and they are fine. He says that they are fine together when they are young but as they get a bit bigger/older they do not tolerate each other very well. Could the new bristlenose have picked on the old one and stressed him out??

No the female is alot smaller, my male bristlenose was like the god of the tank! haha but he always kept to himself, the female just pottered around so that wouldnt be the reason.
Just get a couple of bristlenose i say! They are awsome :)
