My Eheim Has No Carbon Pad

Cant believe it didnt come with a carbon pad, is it necessary to have one?

for the initial use yes, as this will absorb any contaminants that the
manufacturing process may have caused.

After runing it for a few days then you can remove the carbon pad and
not use another untill you need to absorb meds after treatment.
