My little Dwarf's are growing up so fast! I have some pictures and I'd like to know if anyone can tell me whether they are male or female yet. There's only 2 but one of them is in both pictures.
This is the smaller one, Male?

And this is the larger one, Female?, with the smaller one.

I shall say, they have just finished a lovely helping of bloodworm.

WOW! Nice Dp's Paradise! They look extremely healthy, with a nice plump belly, and a healthy colors it looks like your doing a great job! Oh and its about time we got some pictures! ;)

KatDis84: Thank you, they didn't stay still for them though so they could have been better. Yes they do get on which is why I'm wondering if it's a male and a female as they have completely different colouring and I've heard 2 males won't get on very well(I originally thought it was 2 males...).

Shovelman: Again, thank you. They eat like horses and they eat anything. Their diet is very varied though as they get Lobster Eggs, Bloodworm, Brine Shrimp, Daphnia, Small Amounts of Pran, Snails, etc, etc... Varied enough do ya think?

Do you have one of those self cloning crayfish in a tank reproducing or something? Never heard of people purchasing lobster eggs...

Thanks, I had to have them Puffers specially ordered in as they had none in stock at the time. The Lobster Eggs are constantly for sale as no-one but me an other DP owners buy them.

I've recently fallen in love with dwarfs. Just bought a 4 gallon so I could get 1. Yours are absolutely spectacular! I'm so eager to try and find some sl I won't have to pay 35 dollars just for shipping!

Will they eat freeze-fried blood worms?

Don't feed them any freeze-dried food as it can cause them to bloat and it doesn't have any nutritional value for them. Have a look at the list of food mine get and try anything off that. Frozen or Live Bloodworms and Brine Shrimp are a good staple diet, along with snails to trim their beaks down a if their beaks grow too much they can't eat. The Lobster Eggs do this as well because they have a harder casing.

Id be weary of a puffer in 4 gallons....i personally wouldnt keep them in anything less than 8gallons..but that's just me..

I would say the bare Minimum for a single dwarf is 3 gallons but I think it's too small. For a single I'd keep it in no less than 5 gallons, but 4 is in between. I'm not saying it's right but it's doable if you overfilter. I've only got 2 in my 8 gallon because I don't have a ten gallon. My next one up is a 12 gallon that is inhabited by an Axolotl.

Its not really a problem with the size of the fish, but as paradise mentioned you have to have an excellent filtration system as, if you researched im sure you heard they are messy eaters and are rightly so. Another reason you might have problems is the puffer itself can get bored, even in the most elaborate of tanks with heaps of plants and driftwood etc they still need the swimming space and room to explore and distract their busy little minds otherwise they will simply rot away as they pace the glass...hence why i wouldn't even recommend a 5 gallon...i had my single one in a 10 gallon and he would pace all the time until i redid the tank with huge amounts of decorations and even still id see him pace every once and a while...

Mine don't pace as they have each other and lot's of plants and a big skull mountain ornament to swim in and out of. Oh and the like to surf in the current of a filter flow so you need a fast filter flow.
