My dwarf puffer fish are chilling out at the top of the tank with there heads at the top and boddies facing down... they have never done this beofre they ussiall just hang out at the middle to the bottom of the tank never at the top like they are.. i have fed thenm, but they are eatting very minimal if at all... i dunno if i am just being concerned or if there is something wrong.. i got the water tested today and they said all was good... help me.. please

Hmm.. if your water is 'fine', my next question would be.. what's the temp in the tank, and what kind of aeration do you have in it?

temp right now is about 80 and i have a filter that sits on the side of the tank, which can also be used to sit on the bottom of the tank.. i forget the name of it... and thy got plants and lotsa objects to hide around..

It sounds like ammonia poisoning to me... some chemicals can cause you to get a false ammonia reading when you test your water. Are there any other fish in the tank? How many gallons is it? What do you add to the water?

I'd do a 25% water change. Then, do about 15% water changes, twice a day until it improves. I'm not really clear on the cycling of your tank... but I'm suspecting it hasn't been cycled. Your puffers may not make it, but if you're diligent with the water changes, you might get them through the worst of it. The ammonia levels normally spike 7 - 8 days after you add fish.

I have an ammonia reader in the tank now and it reads that it is fine... there are no other fish in the tank just the dwarf puffers, and it is A 2 GALLON i have just added decolanator to the water and that has been it.. the readings have been comming ouy fine...

I did vylce it before i put the fish in and it was fine when i added the first ones.. i will go do a 25% water change now and hope for the best....

ok did the 25% water change, hopfully they will be ok they don't see to be going to the top so much,, i hope they are ok....

how many fish do you have in that 2gallon I think that is a lot of your problem is over crowded a 2 gallon tank is the right size for a betta mabey IMO that is to small for even a betta

Did you really mean they're in a TWO gallon tank? That is definitely too small for four pufferfish... too small for one fish, really. They would poison themselves with ammonia in no time in a tank that small.

However, being that the filter you showed was good for a tank up to 20 gallons, I'm hoping it was a typo. Until somebody who knows a lot about puffers comes along (I know next to nothing about them), I'd stick with the water change routine.
