My Crab Is Dead!

When i looked at my tank today I saw something that didnt look so good, So I looked under the bog wood and saw what looked like a dead crap

But as i looked up I could see pinchy! He had shed his shell for the first time!

I presume from this he is doing well, I can notice that he's grown

He likes crawling up the intake pipe for my external filter and sitting ontop, so I know hes getting enough air. But i have blocked up any gaps tp stop him escaping!!

The exact same thing happened to me this week.Bought the crab on Wednesday and came home from work on Thursday to find it legs up in the tank.Chucked it in the bin and came back in to discover it coming out of a cave!

our crab did this recently.. it's pretty weird!! we had exactly the same reaction omg.. claw-dia is dead.. .. but nope, there she was hiding under the slate!! amazing creatures!

our crab also climbs up the heater and sits on the powerhead.. this is where we leave her food also. someone on here advised me that she might need some iodine put into the tank, but i couldn't find any info about this on the web. we feed her hikari crab cuisine, which supposedly contains everything that they need, including calcium, which helps to harden thier shell.

you may find that your crab is a little quiet for a while, as her shell will be very soft and she will be susceptible to attack. we only have one crab in our tank, so we just left her in, but some ppl do remove the crab just before it sheds.

you should leave her moulted shell in the tnak, and she will feast on this over the next few days, and it too will help her shell harden!

Hey all,

yes i have left it in the tank as when i got the crab i read loads on here how to keep them..thnaks for the tips!! But how long should i leave it in there for?

Laos where do i get the food from, do you think my lfs sell it? At the moment im feeding plec wafers, but im now worried that the crab is steeling them and my plec wont get any!!

i'm not too sure how long you leave the moulted skin in the tank for, i think that it is supposed to be about a week (i didn't realise that it needed to stay in the tank when i found it, and ended up throwing it away.. oops )
yea you should be able to buy it at your lfs.. its just the brand called Hikari, and the food is called Crab Cuisine.
