Hiya,

As described above all my corys used to be very active but now have stopped coming out and swimming around. They tend to stay near the back of the tank in cover hidden by the bogwood and plants. Is this normal?

How can i get them out and about again as they used to be active? If i cut back on food so they have to go find it would that make a difference?

Hey Craig, Im no expert!

But You may have the temperature a tad to high!

In my short expierence (thus far) with corys i have found that even a difference of 2-3 degrees C can dramatically chance how they act!

Maybe its just what i have obsaerved but my corys are very active at around 23degrees C but then if it rises to even just 25degrees C they get pretty sluggish and just sit around all day!

Hope this helps out!

Someone who knows more will be along sometime!

Could be possible. The tank is set at 28degs, but before everybody jumps on the "too warm for the corys bandwagon" the majority of the discus were bought from a discus breeder that kept them at this temp and had bred the majority of them at this temperature.

could there be any other reason?

I will turn down the temp slightly to see if that makes a difference. I have discus so it cant go down too much.

Cheers for the advice

Craig

Hi freerunner416 :)

What kind of corys do you have? There is no general rule for the best temperature for keeping corys because there are so many different species. If you have C. sterbai, which are often kept with discus, that temperature should be fine.

Do you have much surface water movement? Corys like well oxygenated water and like frequent water changes. :D

Hi Inchworm,

I have the following Corys:
10 Gold shoulder
2 Bronze
2 Albino

The gold shoulder were in with the discus and i slowly racked the heat up in my old tank to 28 so that the bronze and albino's got used to the added heat over 6month period. Dont know if that works but never mind. I have an EX1200 running on the tank with the 3 sections of spray bar. 2 are going along the surface and one is pointed back down in to the tank against the back wall. That should give good surface agitation. Also due to the discus the tank gets at least one 50% water change a week but usually i do at least one other 25% as well.

I have not fed my fish yesterday and will feed them later on today to see if that helps. You might have seen from my other posts that i have a snail problem aswell so am trying to sort that out but i dont think that will be affecting the corys.
