My albino cory is staying around the top of the tank alot. He just swims around the top with his mouth in the air. He does this 2/3 of the day. Why is he doing this?
Not sure about the air thing, but my corydoras (albino) used to do that all the time in my smaller tank, though they still swim around the top every now and then in the bigger tank.
I was told that it was not a problem, and they have remained healthy for several months despite this behavior.
A few weeks ago this happened to my albino cory, then some red marks appeared all over its body and about a week later it was dead . I don't know whether it's the same thing, but I think it's best to be on the safe side. This is the advice I was given:
When a cory swims at the top and appears to be gasping for air, it is often one of the first signs of trouble in a tank. Immediate water changes are always a good thing to do and they will often stop problems from going any further.
Water parameters do not tell the whole story. It's impossible to know what kinds and how many potentially harmful bacteria are growing in your tank by doing any tests. While they are normally not harmful, when a cory shows signs of some kind of stress, like yours is doing, it could end up with a lowered immune system and be susceptible to infection from them.
Water changes, along with bottom vacuumings, will lower the bacterial count, improve oxygen content, and also remove any leftover food that they might be feeding on. Also, try to keep the water temperature fairly constant.
I would suggest that you watch your cory closely and if he doesn't go back to normal, or if he shows any other symptoms, treat it for bacterial infection.
I think Flash is just lazy. I dont think they is going to be anything wron gwith the tank. My female guppy is acting wierd but she is pregnant and she is just showing signs that she is going to have her fry soon.
