My Common Plecs Eating Habits

i have had my common plec for a few weeks now and apart from seeing him eat a bit of cucumber, I havent really seen him feeding, I have tried him with catfish pellets, flakes and some frozen bloodworm, is it normal for them to feed without an audience? and is there anything else I could try to feed him, also while I am on the subject, how long would you leave the cucumber in the water for, is it possible it could have discoloured the water if it was left in for about 36 hours? this might be a silly question but it relates to another post I have put up in the beginner section!!

What time of day are you feeding him/are the tank lights on when you feed him? Some plecs will only feed when the tank lights are off at first.
Is the water looking green or somthing?

yes the water is looking a bit misty and green, I have tried some floating algae killer but that hasnt solved the problem, I am sticking to all the maintainance and water changes , no joy. I do tend to feed when the lights are on, are you suggesting I try to feed with the lights off
