This is Mimi, my old girl. We rescued her from a shelter, so we don't know how old she is...but she's pretty old

They are so pretty  I've always wanted one

Thanks! IMO cockatiels are the best parrots...they don't make a lot of noise (unless they're males) very lovable, very cute, very smart, and don't get big. Maxie is my favorite (don't tell mimi! :shifty: ) she loves sitting on my shoulder while im on the computer, and we've taught her a trick. If you say "Maxie, want some kisses?" She'll bow her head and allow you to preen and massage her...you might say shes taught us a trick for her enjoyment :fun: Mimi is really old, and was a resuce, she doesn't trust people unless she sits on their heads...which is annoying, because she likes to poop in my hair  She doesn't like human contact, would rather fly away than get kisses...but i still love her  We used to have a male, also a rescue...Literally, a rescue...My neighbors found him in their front yard one morning, and of course shoved all responsibility on us :grr: His name was Roscoe, and we tolerated him for about 3 months until we had to give him away to a Bird Sanctuary Foster home thingy organization, because he'd so aggressive to poor Mimi she had lost 2 lbs...thats a lot for a tiny bird. Anywho, cockatiels are a bunch of fun. You should get one

Lovely birds.

My great-grandma used to have budgie, he was adorbale  But she was really old and apparently forgot that open doors are a birdie no-no...and then he sat on the door...and she closed it   I think you know what happened next

Oh no! Poor budgie.
I must get my daughter to scan some pics for me of mine.
I'm on an iPad & tried taking pics of pics, but the quality is awful

I'd love to see some pics :good:

Just reading about your old cockatiel, I have a female that at best estimate is around 15yrs old. I got her as an adult (no way of knowing how old she was at the time) and I have had her ever since, the poor girl looks really rag tag, and some of the other cockatiels bully her at times but she is still going strong. When the younger birds get really nasty I have tried removing the old girl but the rest of the flock kick up such a ruchous over their flock member being moved it's like a thousand mardi gras whistles are being blasted in a canyon. Not the best sound to put up with for hours on end. So now I just ensure plenty of feeding stations throughout the avairy, heaps of natural branches for them all to find good roosts and plenty of bark for them to strip off of the branches. And after having kept budgies (vicious little vampire creatures) I can say I prefer cockatiels even though they can latch on pretty good too. I also have a pair of Rosa Bourkes that when people see them think are pink budgies, they are the prettiest little birds but fiesty, Burke the male became a horror in with the cockatiels so he and Rose his hen know have one bay of the aviary all to themselves.
