Hi there,

I've kept 4 Clown Loaches for about a year. They've been all good so far, until this evening when I got home I noticed one of the loaches was just spining around the tank, non stop. I couldn't see what's wrong with it. Physically it looks as normal as ever. No damage on the fins/body. The color is bright (you know, how their colors sometimes fade. But it looks totally ok)

I kept it in isolation for about 1/2 an hour. I gave some salt and MelaFix, didn't seem to help. So I put it back in the tank now.

I check the water pH, temperature, nitrate, etc. Everything is ok. All other fish are ok too.

Could anyone tell me what's wrong with it??? What do I have to do? Help!!!

Thanks a lot... -_-

When I've had clowns before, every so often one would go a little bit loopy, but have always calmed down eventually.

What's the weather been like there?

I know Khulis react to particular weather conditions, maybe clowns do too. :dunno:

Thanks guys for your replies...

hello kitty: I also thought it might've been swimbladder, that's why I gave a bit of salt and epsom salt.

Really? I've never seen them like that before. I hope, just like yours, it would eventually return to normal soon. It's been about 3 hours now since I first noticed that weird spinning behaviour.

It's winter here in Australia. It's been extraordinarily windy outside since yesterday. Could it be the reason?

I hope it's not going to die!!!
I feel so helpless, as I don't know what to do...

define spinning?
As in barrel roll?
Or swimming in circles or what?
Also AFAIK loaches don't like salt.

Sky042: Yes, you could say Spinning as in barrel roll. However it doesn't look lile swaying. It alsmost looks like it does it with its own will. If you know what I mean.
It must've been dizzy by now... it's been doing it for hours!!! What do you think it is???

I read it somewhere before, you could put a bit of epsom salt to any fish if the fish suffers from swimbladder. Is that true? I hope I didn't make it worse...

Hard to say what he's up to.
Clowns do goofy stuff as part of their nature.

Yesterday morning I came home and found my clown loach head down belly stuck to the filter inlet tube.

At first I think he was dead. Then got closer he saw me and decided to flip himself right way up but still stuck to the tube.....till I put food in the tank then it was game on. Sorry if I'm not much help

Man your tank will be a warzone eventrually :X. If there is no sign of illess you should just let them do what ever they want as long they dont tend to hurt them self :).

Hi there,

you wouldn't believe this... The first thing I did this morning was checking if the loach was ok. And yes, it was as good as new!!! Looks like I was worried for nothing. Like some of you mentioned, probably it was just being loopy... I hope that won't happen too often though!!!

Well, they seem to get along alright so far. But I guess you're right... I'll have to change the setting, probably separate them into several tanks, once they are bigger.

Thanks again, guys !!! B)
