I bought some cherry shrimp at the weekend and have only seen one around my tank wondering if they have been eaten =/ hope not.

In there i have neon tetra, columbian tetra, a comon plec, 2 loach's 2 dwarf gourami and a Siamese fighter. Before anyone says anything everything is fine no fin nipping or anything.

Anyway is there any way any of these fish could have eaten the shrimp cause they arnt very big anyway.
Also does anyone know a bargin place for me to get more from cause i paid £21 for 6 couldn't find any cheaper and to be honest for what they are i think thats expencive

i dont know anything about shrimp as i've never kept any, but maybe they are just settling in, do you have hiding places in the tank that the shrimp may be using, one other thing are you sure you want to buy more if you suspect they may just be becoming expensive live food for your fish? £21 quid for 6 seems like daylight robbery to me i think they are about £5 or £6 for 5 at my lfs

im just looking at getting them hopefully they will start to come out more and there is loads of places for them to hide which is what im hoping they are doing

well if you still intend getting more, providing they dont just breed anyway, i've seen them offered for sale on the forum in the classifieds section and at very very reasonable prices too

That would be me selling them lol, with the fish you have in that tank I wouldn't get anymore in there as if a fish can fit it in its mouth its food. So half of your fish could easily have eaten them.

see thats what i thought but i got told it would be fine, do you know of anything else small like that can be the cleaners?

you could try Amano shrimps, they sell them all over the place, a bit cheaper than cherries as well. To be honest i say some cherries at a garden center the other day at the price you paid. They were super reds though. Cherries are excellent hiders though.

Chances are (provided they haven't been eaten) that they are hiding. I had shrimp in my newt tank and they would come out but they were hiding most of the time. Then I moved them to their own little tank and they were out all of the time; rarely hiding.

I've been through your situation before, bearing in mind i only have dwarf frogs as tankmates. But yes, like people have already said, providing they havnt been eaten i expect they are either hiding, or in your filter.

I lost 2 cherries when i set up my tank due to my filter sucking them up, although i MAGICALLY found the 2nd shrimp still alive inside my filter. Now ive got an end of a pair of thin tights over my filter intake so they cant get sucked up.

Aswell as not allowing them to get sucked up by the filter, the tights also provide a nice area for the shirmp to have a feast, since algae and other foods grow on the them (mine tends to stay reletively clean).

Sorry to blabber haha.. But yes, ive found that it is easy to lose these shrimp when they feel threatened, especially when you provide a selection of hiding places. :)

If your tank is well planted then most likely they are hiding, if you can switch of the light randomly for an hour or so then switch it back on. they might appear. ad for the siamese fighter and the loaches... im not sure if they're compatible with red cherries... if you look around and find the right place you can get them as cheap at 50p each. i found a breeder who sells them at that price, packages them well and even gives a bit of java moss!!
