For the first time I gave my fish cooked peas (only the guts-I took the skins off and mashed them a little). I only gave 3 peas as there are only 4 fish (2 of them cherry barbs). They went completely nuts. I couldn't believe how they went for it and my female cherry barb was the biggest pig. Right after she ate she looked like this

and this (she was back there trying to find more peas, I think. She actually ate more after I took these)

Before the peas she was slim and trim as usual so apparently she stuffed herself good. Can a fish die from eating too much? :( How often should I give the peas? Once a week? More often? Is 3 too many??

My Neons' tummies always look rather full after I feed 'em, and I've never had any problems. My guess is that your Barb will be okay, though I can't say for certain.

Not sure how often peas ought to be fed. Perhaps someone else can answer that for ya!

I gave my fish peas for the first time tonight also and they went nuts.

HI...

I only feed peas once or twice a week at most..I wouldn't worry to much about the big belly...Dont feed them for a day or two and you'll see her resort back to normal size. HIH :D

I feed peas 1-2 times a week as well. They are a high protein, vitamin rich food and barbs love them. Fish are opportunistic feeders, when there is a glut of something they like, they will gorge. Often then not feeding for days. Usually nothing to worry about.

Thanks everyone. She is almost back to her old slim self again. I think they won't be fed today-we'll see how she looks tomorrow. :)

 my tetras never ate the peas i gave them. so after like a day or two i took them out. peeee yuuuu

She's all slim again. I didn't feed them yesterday and ammonia was a bit high so I didn't feed them today and we did a partial water change today. They keep trying to make me feel bad, going all crazy when I get near the tank. I'm pretty sure they think I'm going to feed them. I actually do feel a little bad.
