My Catfish Has A Buging Stomach Is It Pregnant

Well, it won't be prenant as such, as they're not livebearers. I suppose it could be full of eggs, but it's more likely to be over feeding or bloating.

Try not feeding for a couple of days and then offering some lighly cooked, shelled peas and see how it looks then.

There's not a lot you can do tbh. You could try doing a large water change with cold water; that triggers spwaning in a lot of species.

She probably is full of eggs. I'm not sure about that specific species but Corydora females will release a few eggs and clutch them with their pectoral fins, the male will fertilize the eggs and then she will stick them in various places. The eggs will hatch 3-5 days later...well that is if no one has eaten them!

My syno has a huge belly too but is otherwise normal. How can I tell if it is female? I also have another slim syno in another tank which could be male. Should I put them together to encourage her (if it's female) to lay eggs or are they likely to fight? How do you induce spawning/breeding in synos?

I don't really know about the type of catfish you have but all my corydoras get along. If your other catfish is smaller and slimmer and they are full grown then you can probably assume he is male. I don't know the spawning behaviours of your type of catfish so I can't say whether or not they will get along. Something to research online of no one on here can answer it for you.

Good luck

I agree with fluttermoth. Do probably a 50% water change with water that has been dechlorinated but is colder than the tank water itself which helps to replicate fresh rainfall in the wild which is when some species like to spawn.

If she is bloated, make sure she is pooing as it will eventually kill her if not. The addition of cooked shelled peas can help to relieve constipation.

Keep us posted! :)
