I got home today to find my bronze cory tank covered in eggs there where loads its caught me by surprise though ive read about it alot ive got them in 2 tubs floating in the tank with a air stone in each ive used tank water for them is that right?

How high should i have the bubbles on? ive got a little thing that controls the air flow ive got it on fairly low but still quite bubbly.

Also i read and was told i need to put meth blue in with them to stop them going bad is this right? if not what should i buy? ive got some interpet anti fungus&finrot and interpet anti internal bacteria if that's any good?

I work from 7:00am-7:30am to 6-7pm all week is a water change in the morning and one when i get home ok?

The filter i have for the tank i would move them into if they survive is a fluval 1 would is be ok? could i cover it with a pair of tights?

The tank i have to move them into is a arcadia arc its around 8gal.

Any other pointers you can give me would be brilliant.

Ethan

wow fab news :good: ,looks like they've been busy, you have done the right thing :),you dont need to change the water with the eggs, they should be fine :)
But keep an eye on them if the eggs go white or fungus grows on them, remove these straight away or they'll affect the other eggs.

Good luck with them, hope you have little fry soon :)

Thanks :good:

There where more eggs but they where eating some i just got there in time.

What foods would you recommended feeding fry?

Hi Ethan040 :)

Wonderful! :yahoo: Didn't you just get these corys? You are certainly off to a good start with them.

As for the airstone, you don't need it to be set very high, but make sure that there is a good flow of water over all the eggs. Weigh the leaf down if necessary to keep it from floating up and exposing the eggs to the air.

If you can get a microworm culture going, I would recommend it. If not, Hikari First Bites is a good starter food for them.

I have just bought a microworm culture from eBay there walterworms it says there coming first class so should be ready for when they need feeding i read they live of the yolk sack for the first 3 days is this true?

I haven't had them long but they seemed very happy with there new tank though ive got a nice hollow piece of bogwood in there and a few plants crypt/cambomba/java moss/amazon frogbit/java fern.. i haven't tried to start them breeding at all just the usual twice weekly 20% water changes.

Should i be feeding with more bloodworm's and brine shrimp now one of them has given birth to get there energy back up? or is there usual routine ok?

I think their usual routine will be ok. I tried the worm culture thing from eBay but I live in a flat and didn't really have anywhere to keep them. Plus they stink of sweaty feet. I've been feeding mine with frozen baby brine shrimp and they've grown loads. It's good because it sinks straight to the bottom and is like a really fine powder.

Congrats. I have only had mine 2 days (well 3 technically now) But i had only had them 2 days and they spawned! Mine are hi-fin bronze corys.

Ive never used the microworms before ive got a spare bedroom to grow them in where my other tanks are and a main one in the living room.

Microworm cultures do develop a distinctive smell but if you restart them frequently you can avoid the worst of it too. I keep mine in the kitchen so it's important to me to keep them fresh. I've also found that keeping them in a fairly large container that has room for air circulation while the lid is closed helps too. Even if I'm not presently feeding them to the fish, I take the cover off, give them a good stir with a fork and wave the lid over them a few times to be sure there is plenty of good oxygen in the box.

I figure it takes at least a day and maybe more. Then they can live on the microorganisms that are found in the tank. What I usually do after they hatch is to move them to a small tank and rinse a filter over them. They will live under the mulm for a week or so, eating the tiny food they find in it, and when they start coming to the top of it they will be ready for microworms of finely powdered fry food.

Should i be feeding with more bloodworm's and brine shrimp now one of them has given birth to get there energy back up? or is there usual routine ok?

It won't hurt to feed them that for a few days but then get them back to their routine of a balanced diet. Whatever you have been doing, it's been working well.

:)

Can i just ask. Without buying a starter culture how do you grow microworms? How do you feed them to your cory fry?

Hi misscosmo :)

You need a starter culture to get started with but once you get them going you can restart it as often as you need to. Just take part of it and add it to a fresh batch of oatmeal.

Since you live in the UK, you could buy some from BigC at a very reasonable price. Here's a link:

Thanks for the link Which would be better bananaworms or microworms they are both the ame price so i don't know which as i have been told by many many people (not just on here) that bananaworms are good for cory fry aswell.

Absolutely congrats again, microworm cultures are easy to set up and once you get going just keep refreshing them to avoid the smell (you get used to it ;)) Let us know when the eggs start to hatch! :hyper:

Don't worry this will be the first place the eggs hatchment rate is put.
