My 2 Bn Plecs have had their first batch of eggs, found them today. :hooray:
He has set his nest up in a see through tube (I have a few place set up for them) so im able to see him clearly while he is caring for them :good:

Just a few questions to the experts:
Should I try to catch the fry when they are born (if they do  ) and put them in a breeding net?
Is there anything special I should do for them?

Thanks in Advance!!

the male should look after them for 10 days after the hatch, by then they the should be starting to look like mini plecs, for the first few days they feed off there egg sacks and any algae in the tank then i fed mine some veg and the normal food for the adults, but i'm sure the rest will know more, and good luck with your new babies :good:

oh and i had no probs leaving mine with the parents, various tetras and a large swordtail so they should be fine

I think my semi-adult male might be keeping guard over a batch of eggs/fry. He doesn't quite have the bristles of a true adult but he has been holed up in a breeding cave the past few days. Does the male usually stay head first or tail first when he's watching over a brood? Mine is head first in there but quite actively swishing his tail around repeatedly like he was keeping the current going. Not even the temptation of fresh vegetable got him out and he usually bullies over that stuff. I recently introduced a mature female to the tank and she looks slightly skinnier than before as if she's shed some weight or possibly eggs.

Well the little guy has messed up his pile of eggs, guess he is still learning. He is still fanning them :good:

Lovely fish, i really want to do bristlenose plecs myself at some point, they are really cool! Good luck with the eggs/fry etc!

Teelie - you have described exactly what my BN male was doing. I never even saw any eggs and had no idea what was going on until suddenly there was baby BNs appearing! The first lot I had in about October last year, only 3 survived because my heater broke over Xmas :( I have a second lot of which there are still 25+ in a breeding net. Daddy BN has been moved to another tank! I attempted to take some pics but they came out rubbish :(

That's what someone else had said in my thread so he IS guarding a clutch! :D Good thing I recently bought a 40g breeder. I've seen him peeking his tail out a little more today which I hope means he'll finally come out and eat some food, and introduce his brood. :p

UPDATE: Unfortunately the little guy abandoned his nest, and the eggs got eaten :(
(I think he was getting disturbed by the other fish when they swam near the tube, so I have coved it in sand :good: )
BUT... He is back in there and fanning again, so Im guessing there is eggs in there (cant see now due to the sand), hopefully he will have better luck with this lot

Keep ya updated
