So, at long last my big day finally arrived :yahoo: . The day to finally add fish to my cycled tank. My tank has been cycled for almost 2 weeks now, but for some reason I just couldn't settle on anything, and when I finally would I'd call around and no one would carry what I was looking for.

SOOOOO....I decided on some Bumblebee Gobies and a couple of Dwarf Puffers. (I have a 10 gal). I was going to a certain LFS for all of my fishy needs and such, but recently they've upset me greatly so I've stopped going there. I decided to try a new place that a friend of mine uses. I called the Fish Lady up this week and told her what I wanted and she ordered it. I went by yesterday to pay for them, as their policy says all "special ordered" fish have to be paid for up front when the order is placed. The lady said she would have my fish seperated from all the others so that they wouldn't get eaten.

I went in today to pick up my fish and I couldn't seem to find them anywhere. I looked in every tank there was. Then, I noticed a small piece of paper with my name on it so I walk to the counter where the paper was and noticed that my BBG's and DP's were in small cups like bettas are stocked in!! They've been in there all day!!!! So, frantically I drive home which was about 25 minutes away and quickly (but not too quickly) try to acclimate them to my water. I had already noticed that one DP wasn't doing too good so I went ahead and put him in the tank first. He swam off to a corner and laid there. I waited a couple of hours to see if he would perk up, but he didn't. I gave him more time...but unfortunately he died.... :rip:

I realize that this wasn't necessarily my fault, but here it is my first day with fish and I feel like an utter failure! I'm going to have to go to the LFS tomorrow and see if I can get another DP and hope that it doesn't start any spats with the other since they weren't added together :( I DON'T KNOW. I guess I feel overwhelmed because things didn't work out like I thought they would. I guess it's just been a bad day anyway, really. On top of everything-my husband doesn't really like the fish I got because "he can't see them from the couch". They are too small. He wants something BIG. I remind him it's only 10 gal. I just feel really discouraged now...thinking maybe fishkeeping isn't for me :dunno:

I just wanted to vent....

:fish:
maybe I should stick to bettas....

The lfs are to blame not you, they should of never have been put in cups, the temp drop and everything, plus the water can soon get polluted.
Sorry don't be so harsh on yourself got off to a bad start.

Yeah, it's not your fault. How are the other fish doing?

Umm! try not your fault at all!!

keep at it and you'll be fine.

Ps tell your hubby to move his couch closer to the tank then LOL

Awe don't let one time ruin your fun!!! Try again!! After all it was no fault of yours, you did your best!!! :good:

Not your fault at all!

The LFS really should give you the fish you asked for without charging you further as putting them in cups was a really idiotic move on their part. I've never heard of such a thing and definitely wouldn't go to a shop that would do something like that. In any case they really do owe you another dwarf puffer, hopefully the rest will be ok.

not your fault dont worry about it

but i hate to point to pont this out to u but dwarfs puffers r very likley to kill bumble bee gobies IMHO

Awww.. I'm so sorry one of your puffers died.
It wasn't your fault though. That LFS should've known better than to do what they did.
They could've at least placed those fish in breeders traps/nets or something in one of their regular tanks to seperate them instead of sticking them in cups.
You should suggest that to them!

Don't give up though!

Yeah definately not your fault, don't give up.

I don't go back to that lfs unless it's to give them a piece of your mind!!

Wow i think I would of gone off my rocker at the LFS when I saw the fish in cups!! Thats really bad. my LFs has so many empty tanks for fish ordered and reserved.

Definatly NOT your fault and please dont give up. The LFS owe you another puffer so make sure you get one ;)

Get you O/H a chair next to the tank lol.

Good luck. How are the others doing?

So far all of my other fish seem to be doing good. The BBG's were hopping around from one spot to another all night and the DP was busy swimming up and down the glass looking out all night. Hopefully, all will go well with the rest. I appreciate all of your support! :thanks:

I really thought that's what she meant! Maybe putting some kind of divider in or something. Needless to say I was really surprised when I saw that. I guess I just thought that the lady over the fish department would know better. I now know differently.

I know I'm taking a risk, but I have spoke with several people on this forum that have had success keeping the two together. I realize that if all my gobies show up missing-then it was my fault :X ! Hopefully though I'll be one of the successful ones. I've got tons of hiding places and lots of snails to (hopefully) keep the puffers busy and distracted from the gobies.

Again, Thank y'all so much!! ( <---yes I'm from the South)
