My Betta's Just Look At Eachother

My bettas are in separate bowls, But they often look at eachother. Not aggessively but efficationately. Are they any signs that betta's can show that tell wheater they like eachother or not?? I am not sure. Are you?

my boys often see each other sometimes they aren't bothered and just stare at one another, other times they go mad as if they want to kill each other, they do the same when they see the girls, even when breeding the female is only with the male for a short time and the breeder has to be certain they aren't letting her out to early which would end in possible death
