I bought this betta at a pet store the other day.

The fact that this particular store had a betta that wasn't half dead was already pretty amazing.

The betta being a delta was even more amazing.

And possibly having a little mustard gas in it, more amazing still.

The fish looks like a male, flares like a male, blows bubbles like a male. But the shocking thing I noticed this morning...

Figure that one out.

The bettatalk lady says she's seen a couple males with egg spots, but it's pretty rare. So I'm sure he's probably a male... but if it were a female it would be cool, wouldn't it? I wonder if it makes him sterile.

If there were a Transexual Betta of the Month contest, I think I'd have this one in the bag. :)

Not to mention that it is absolutely gorgeous no matter what! :hyper:

Oh yeah, BOTM. :p

Stunning, and confusing, guy...er...gal!
I know what you mean by the surprisement, i bought a 'female' who turned out to be a male with an ovispitor, it's interesting that you should post this as i was *just* about to ask if anyone else had this.
Awesome, maybe our fish should get together some time eh? :hey: Haha!
She's absolutely beautiful. :)

Hes very lush! i bet ur just the proudest owner ever!

along with the fact that he/she is a delta, and a great colour, u have a very cute faced betta!

i second the BOTM nomination!!

I'm wishing that you found him at Petco or something like that, because I am about to jump in my car and go check.

Third that TBOTM. :kana:

I had a female with finnage just like that, flared, built nests, the whole bit. I know she was a female because I watched her drop eggs  Who knows what yours is, just letting you know it can happen that way ;)

Actually, males have what would resemble an oviposter too, only it is not noticable on most males. It only protrudes on a few males. I've had several so called females(because of the white spot I thought was an oviposter), only to see it was a late blooming male. I just gave a friend a choc, bodied male with black lace finnage that still has a bright white spot resembling a oviposter. Since the sex of the Betta is supposedly determined after they are born, I assume this spot on a male is because of that reason.

I guess if I can get him/her to give me some vertical stripes I'll have my answer.

I've seen a hint of horizontal stripes on the trip home, which I've never seen on my males, but I believe other people here have males who put up stress stripes.
