One of the females in my sorority tank has developed some sort of growth on one side of her mouth. I do not think it Columnaris, because it does not look cottony. It's dark in color and looks swollen. Anyone have any idea what it could possibly be? She seems fine in health otherwise, though currently she seems a little stressed after being moved into a hospital tank that is treated with salt. I only noticed it today how big the growth looks today, though this past week I began to suspect something was up but decided to watch her and see. I thought perhaps it was just the way she looked since she has not acted sickly and has been eating just fine.

Has she banged it on something in the tank, what colour is it, is it a lump.

Well, it looks swollen and it is blackish looking- but she already is rather dark colored natirally. I wouldn't know if she banged it on something, I can't watch her all the time though I'm assuming not since I noticed a gradual change.

She may have had a squable with another gal in the tank and got a substantial nip. My platinum VT gal showed up with a dark spot. I could almost see the teeth marks. She is very guarded now and watches her back. She was the last Betta added to the sorority. I am thinking of moving her to a cory tank. She is such a sweetie and one of the least aggressive of the girls.

Anyway I would be suspious of territorial squables among the gals.

I don't know... she's actually one of the tougher girls in the tank. However (and I could simply be in denial that there's a problem), IT seems to be looking better since I put her in with salt.
