Sunday night I fed my favorite guy a choice blackworm....
Monday he acted funny...
Tuesday he was sitting on the bottom all pale...
Wednesday the pinecone effect has started....
Blackworms are a small dark brown worm from California that is harvested as "live" fish food. Like other types of live food sold, they sometimes carry bacteria which is what happened in this case.
Aw, I'm sorry I had a betta die from that, and I never figured out why because he was always kept pristine clean, never overfed, etc. I'm thinking maybe he was weak, because when I got him he had really severe fin rot, and maybe recovering from that took up too much strength so his immunity was low.
Mine was a strapping beautiful marble HM. I really liked him. Right now there are three others not looking so good either so I guess the worms must have been really bad. The darn things looked great thou. Clean, nice, big and very active. It goes to show that you can never tell. Now I need to keep my fingers crossed that the others will stay okay. They are bouncing around like normal.
