I finally got ahold of a okay digital camera and took some pictures of my betta Bob. He may not be the king of beauty in all bettas but I think his personality makes him beautiful and that his colors go great together. Oh this is my first betta also. I have had him for about 7 months. I believe he is looking healthy and he eats fine but I know some of the people on this forum know way more then I do about the fish and suggestions and/or comments are appreciated and welcome, as long as they are friendly and helpful ;) Thanks.

Yeah, they look just like brothers ;) All of your fish are very beautiful thoughl :D

I love the first picture I took of Bob, he turned to look at me to see what I was doing.

He looks lovely and healthy :)

Is that his permanent home? or just something you put him in to photograph him in? Its just that it doesn't have a lid and I would be worried that he could jump out. I've had bettas jump out of their tanks when I've had the lid open for feeding on 3 occasions now and I'm paranoid about lids being on

Oh I never knew they jumped. I have had him for about 7 or 8 months now and he has never jumped but since it's possible I don't want to risk it. I don't have a lid that would fit the top of it, where do you buy them? Does the lfs sell them? :)

Try an an old CD, like an AOL one. It'll still have a hole because they are air breathers.

Or do an upgrade-- 10 gallon tanks are like $9 at Walmart. You could divide it in half. Or get individual 2 gallons also for a few dollars.

Cut a piece of sturdy cardboard to fit over the top, then tape down the edge at 2-4 places, and cut a hole for air and feeding in the center.

If you can find an attractively-printed piece of cardboard, it doesn't look bad.

 its Bob the Betta!! he's really cute, red Bettas are beautiful!

I agree with the lid thing.. personally, I think you should just go for an upgrade!! He would SO appreciate a 1gal, even. Wal*Mart (and Petco) has 1 gallon Aquaviews for $10, including an underground filter and a hood with a light. They're much more spacious for the fish and I'm sure he'd be much more active and happy with a bigger house... Aquaviews also take up NO space, theyre really nice little tanks. 2.5 gallon MiniBows (or 3gal Eclipses) are also *awesome*, they include filters and gravel and decore and are only $25... very spacious and cute for Bettas.

^_^ also, he looks healthy, but what are you feeding him? Just for his enjoyment and variety, try buying a small pack of frozen Brine Shrimp or Bloodworms... they're just in little cube forms, and one pack of 4 oz frozen food lasts FORever with one Betta. It only costs $3, and my Bettas LURVE their frozen food.

Thanks for all the tips. I would put a cd on there but it would fall in. I just went and sized it and it would go right in. So I did the cardboard trick. I think I will go buy him a nice new home this weekend or this week sometime when I get the time. I have been wanting him to get a bigger home I know it probably isn't very much fun in a bowl. :p

Bob is my little baby always wondering what I am doing. Out of all my fish he is the most curious and pays attention to me. I can hand feed him. I have tired with my other fish but they are just a little to shy. I swear he even likes to watch tv with me  .

I feed him mostly freeze dried blood worms and some flakes, but he doesn't really like the flakes that much. But while i'm out getting a new living arangement for him I think I will buy some new tasty treats for him also. I should go to wal*mart on what is it Wednesday when they get new bettas? And scope them out. Maybe get another one. They are very addicting. lol. Especially when you come on this forum and look at everyone elses betta's and hear about them. I think i'm going to become, what do you call it a bettaholic? ;)

Oh and just a quick question. When I get Bob the bigger home is there anything that can go in with him? Say a african dwarf frog or something? I have heard that they can from the lfs, but I never listen to what they say, they have lied to me to many times -_- . I always have to run it by my TFF friends first ;)

EDIT: Oh and I just wanted to mention I had read on here a few times that ghost shrimp could be put with bettas, so I bought 2 of them from the lfs. As I droped one in Bob ate it  . I was amazed he did it right in front of me, the poor thing hadn't even touched the bottom yet. The other one when I scooped it out, jumped out of the net and landed on the counter! I didn't know they jumped. I put it with my other tank and I think my pleco made himself a meal too. :X

An ADF depends on the betta. I have one that will only live with a snail. I put ghost shrimp in with him and he ate all three of them. I tried putting a couple of ADF's in with him and as soon as one of them moved, Batista attacked him. I had to jerk them both out pretty quick. On the other hand, I have Booker in a community tank with the ADF's and he does fine with them, however he does like to snack on ghost shrimp once in a while. :)

Most of my Bettas---regardless of sex---are completely fine living with frogs. However, some aren't, so, if you decide to add frogs, then watch closely for the first day or so to see if he accepts the frog.

Also, frogs ABSOLUTELY need a lid, or they will jump out, dry out, and die.

My ADF is doing wonderfully in my femme tank, but I dn't trust my boys too much with frogs. They're funny when it comes t things like that, Phred tried to kill hid snail a while back and I had to relocate it and yet Shinigami I think would have no problem with a frog....because he's as vicious as a stick. The lazybug. I think it depends on their personality

As for ghost shrimp...they're pretty cool. Eventually I imagine they will wind up as a snack, but it's not like they cost big bucks or anything. (at least, not where I am. 10 for $1.99) Everyone in my tanks love to eat them, fish and frog alike. Yum yum.

(One jumped out of the container when I was putting them in. Apparently kitties love ghost shrimp too. xD)
