I have 2 small angel fish (1 white, 1 black), i got them about a week ago and they swam together nicely.

This morning, I noticed that the white one was not swimming around, just sitting in the upper of lower corner of the tank.

Then i saw the black angelfish come up to it and start nipping it on the side! Is it common for angelfish to nip at each other?

They used to swim around together, but now they're at opposite ends of the tank.

Angels do fight, if you have the room it is better to have 3 or 4. They are cichlids so very terretorial. More cichlids seem to disperse aggression.

:D hellllo,
i have had the same problem as you in the past, i have 4 now they all swim around 2gether
, :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish:
try getting another couple the same size,

I have had exactly the same problem about 6 months ago. If you try adding a few more they should be fine. They usually school in around groups of 4 or more

I have two and the same as you they got along just fine....but I have had to quarantine one of them as the other or maybe a loach had nipped at his tail quite badly....
I was told that in a group they pair of and they can still get aggressive towards eachother....

So what is the answer....????

the answer is to get two more and then add them with the injured one all together, but before you do that see if you can rearrange the tank a little so the dominant one loses his territory. if that works then keep the two that seem the friendliest. if it doesnt work and the dominant one is still going for the weaker angel ( wait a few days to see if any agression quietens down) then you can either take the three angels back keeping the dominant on his own or take the dominant and one more back.
always supposing of course that your lfs will let you. :S

Before you add any more angels, how big are the ones you have now? How big is your tank? What other fish are in the tank? If your tank is too small adding more would be a bad idea. A better idea would be to choose which one you prefer, and try to return the other one.

If you do have room for more, do what black angel said, that is the best way to introduce new semi aggressive fish to a tank. Do realize though, that once a pair forms, they can and will kill other fish. My angels don't like my gourami when they are spawning, they relentlessly chase him around the tank. He ignores them. If you end up with a pair, which is likely IMO, you will probably have to return the other angels as they will do some major damage.

I was worried about adding angels to my 55G cause I have a fully grown angel in there. I did it about 3 months ago. The big guy showed the smaller one who was the boss, and then they got married. In a fishy sense anyway. They now spawn every week and a half to two weeks. It is too bad that I really don't feel like raising an angel spawn.

i don't have problems with two angels, they love each other, they never leave each others side.
