Long back story (You're all fish lovies too, you understand):
With ignorance I bought 2 albino corys with a goldfish one year ago. Yeah, that didn't go too well. I quickly learned the scary things that could happen but didn't have the ability to separate them for a while... By fall I think the goldfish must've bitten off one of the cory's pectoral fins. So I scrounged up moneys and went and got them their own tank. But they were pretty lonely, I know. A few months ago I got two more albinos for them, as well as an upgraded in-tank filter. They share a 10-gallon tank with a male betta who doesn't even recognize them as fish I think (I keep the male in there, and I have 7 other females - for prettiness, not for breeding- in 2-gals around the room. You can imagine my room.) Anyway. They've been very happy, doing their little cory activities. The tank has been cycled for a while - according to ammonia, nitrite, nitrate tests, and I do weekly water changes and vacuuming etcetc so the water is also happy.
I did nothing special, just a regular water change, the other day, and I noticed that my tank was full of eggs. So I carefully picked the eggs off (long nails helps) and put them in a container. I didn't have an extra tank lying around but I didn't want the parents to eat the eggs. They ate about 50% of them anyway before I pulled them out.
I had nothing for fungus handy so I wasn't expecting much, but all of the eggs in the container are fertile, and 16/21 have hatched.
I am going to move some of them to a breeding net in the main tank. Some will sadly have to become extra protein for the others, because I can't fit another tank in here. How many should I/could I keep? 2? 3? a tight fit of 4? The tank as I have said is well established.
Photos of course!
