Hi all,

Just started the hobby a few months ago, and after a few disasters, and plenty of research (many thanks to the people in this forum! :D :D), I am proud to present:

My 10 gal tank:

I am currently still unsatisfied with the tanks, looking for ways to improve them, particularly the 29 gal. I plan to attach some java/christmass moss unto the bogwood as well as some java fern and anubias.

Comments? :D :D

Your tanks look fantastic, especially your 10g! I can't see any room for improvement to be honest. :good:

.... you're not a newbie. not at all.

You just got promoted to at least intermediate on fish care level, if not expert in design.

I can see filtration ect looks great, as does everything else. good job.

Thanks all for the encouraging comments..

The 10 gal is using a HOB filter, with diy co2.
Its inhabitans are 3 guppies (1 male, 2 females), an algae eating shrimp and two albino cories. Am tempted to add more guppies, perhaps a pair, but judging from the 1 inch per gallon rule I'm already pushing, if not over the limit. :/
There were platy fry in there but i rehomed them to the 29 gal.

The plants I have in there are java fern, java moss, christmas moss and elodea/anachris.

As for the 29 gal...

The inhabitans are the platy fry, 3 platys, 8 neon tetras, 10 cardinals, 2 ottos (i think), 9 small fish with blue glowing eyes (lol, i have no idea what they are) and also 3 shrimps. Guess I'm already full here. I plan to rehome the platys some time soon though.
Plant wise, there are valis, elodea and some other plants of which I do not know their names. sorry :X

I have another 29 tank, but it's very sad looking, and it serves mainly as a temporary/quarantine tank; and its inhabitans are mostly fishes and crayfish that me and my friends caught at a local stream. :D Some of them are: platys, an eel (no clue on the species), and several australian red claw crayfish.

My hands are already itching to aquascape this tank. lol.

Good work guy, I like the 10G tank a lot.
As for the 29 G tank, the few plants at the front of the tank would grow very tall later, it might block the view.
By the way both are nice and good job for a "newbie". :)

I really like them. I think your work with the wood looks really natural. My only suggestion is that you hide the piping in the 29gal, but I don't know how possibly that is. I think it's perhaps a bit more obvious than it needs to be. But still, it doesn't detract from your very "post-newbie" approach.

thanks all again :D :D :D

The elodea was simply planted as i just wanted it to grow, in order to avoid any algae problems. Thanks for the tip tho :D

Yeah.. It's a huge eyesore. Am trying to cover it up as much as possible, or get a shorter tube, as this one is rather long. :X

Thanks again :D

This may just be one of my weird urges, but that 10 gallon tank to me is screaming for panda Corys! I dunno why, I've never kept them personally (but I have had other corys), I just think they'd suit it perfectly.

I would love to have panda corys!! But the sad thing is my lfs do not have them, they only have albinos and corydora sterbais. :-( :-(

But I shall constantly search for them. :D :D

Wow! So you actually think that's a good idea. Sorry, it was just like, I've never had that feeling before, quite as strongly, but I reeeally thought they'd work.

Beautiful tanks. I especially like the 10g with it's little path, very inventive. I wouldn't add more guppies, add two more albino corys. They do better in groups and will give you the activity you need. If you post a picture of the "blue-eyed" fish, I'm sure somebody here will be able to give you an ID.

As for the other 29g. I heard that crayfish and plants don't do so well together. If you do try, stick with very hardy, thick-leaved species.

llj

Thanks llj... the path was actually done by my gf, who was inspired by a promotional tank in a lfs. :D :D

As for stocking I think I'll add two more albino corys in the 10 gal, while I add panda corys in the 29 gal. :D That is, provided if I do manage to find any pandas..

Below is a pic of the mystery fish:

Please pardon the blur image; I am rather bad at photography. ;) I hope the image is enough for an ID though. Its size is around the same as a neon, it's only around 2 cm long at present. They are a shoaling fish, and swim faster than neons too.

The other 29g tank isn't planted at all. Learnt my lesson last time when i just placed a pot of elodea/anachris. The next morning all of the plants were floating around, and there happily standing there in the pot was a crayfish. He was sooo lucky that he's too small for consumption lol. These guys will uproot any planted plants, and will even eat christmas moss. Lost quite a number of moss before I realised that.

edit:

just saw this link http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=169015 and it hit me that my mystery fishes resemble those rice fish!

Does that mean that they are genetically modified rice fish? Can someone confirm this? Or is it an original species by itself?

Here's a photo taken from another angle.

The tanks look lovely, especially the 29 gallon, that piece of wood that spans the tank is absolutely beautiful.

I'm just starting my planting process, but I have standard lighting so I'm going to be careful in what plants I get.

Looking at pictures like these gives me some really nice ideas.
