Must-see documentary about wild-caught fish of the Amazon

Nice...will watch after work, thanks for posting

Oh, I think I heard about it. Cory at Aquarium Coop was saying at first he was part of making it but then the partnership did not work. Thank you for posting! I will check it out!

If you have not seen it yet, watch this amazing documentary about the wild-caught fish of the Amazon (it is free on YouTube). If possible, also support Project Piaba to promote the preservation of the environment and the well-being of local fish collectors.

Does it have any sad depressing content?

Think I know of Cory from YouTube vids. Like him!

A very informative and enlightening documentary of the wild caught fish trade. It highlights and underscores how animal rights activists, with the best of intentions, could negatively impact the lives of thousands of people and potentially harm the eco-system and the environment. Any and ALL serious fishkeepers should watch this two part documentary to become [even] more aware of the potential future of the hobby.

Well, it is a complicated story. It discusses how the crisis of the industry in the last 15 years harmed local communitites and the "piabeiros" (fish collectors). But it also shows the extremely important work of the Piaba Project. I wish more people could get engaged, support the project and the establishment of a more professional and sustainable industry.

Exactly!

Two things I found fascinating.

That getting the fish out of their natural environment is good for them because they will live longer in an aquarium.
That the fish are going to die anyhow because of the dry season, so we are saving their lives.

What they never say in these programs is what percentage of the fish actually make it to an aquarium in some bodies house. I would say about 10-15% of the fish caught.
