my tank water has gone very murky i have just bought some clean water to try and clear it up but have no idea how to use it the instructions are terrible, the box sais place 1 or 2 net bags with clean water into the filter what is a net bag? and how do i do this do i take a foam eliment out of my filter and replace it with a bag of this clean water

First of all, some tank info would help greatly. What size tank, how long has it been running, type of filtration, tank inhabitants, temp, and the results of any water tests. Most lfs will do water tests for you if you don't have the test kit at home. If you called your doctor and told him/her "I feel crummy" it wouldn't give them much to go by in diagnosing your ailment. The same holds true for aquatic ailments.

If it is more of a milky color, it's a bacterial bloom, usually associated with newer tanks, overfeeding, too much cleaning of filter media or substrate, or a "missing" fish hidden away somewhere decaying. These usually run their course and solve themselves, if you are missing a fish, it's best to look for them & get them out of there.

If it's more of a greenish color, it's am algae bloom, caused by too much light, infrequent water changes, or overfeeding. Cut back on lights & feeding, and try a daily water change of 10% for a week.

The net bag they are referring to is similar to the net bags thay onions or potatoes come in. I've found that one of the wife's old nylons works just as good. Anything clean that would hold the substance in and let water flow through, as well as fit in your filter should work fine.

Do not remove all the media out of your filter, just part of it if you plan on using this clean water, as it will cause your tank to re-cycle, assuming it is cycled.

right it is a 18gallon tank and is aprox 5wks old water is a whitish colour just done a water test with a tetra test 5 in 1 test strip and results are nitrates between 0 and ten, genral hardness 10, carbonate hardness 15, ph reading 8, i have 3 angel fish, 1 guarmi, 2 guppies, 1 tiny cat fish, a small plec and a frog
my filter is an eheim aquaball the filter has two foam filters inside a thin one at the top aprox 1/3" tall and 3" round and the bottom one is aprox 4"tall and 3" across do i remove one of these filters to put my clean water filter in ?

i have also just put in some stress zyme the local fish store told me this may help

The tank isn't big enough really for angel fish, how long has it been set up.

That's a lot of fish for an 18 gallon that's only been running for 5 weeks. Unless you did a fishless cycle thay went well, and just added those fish, it probably hasn't fully cycled. I wouldn't pull out any media, you need all the good bacteria you can get at this point. If you can fit in this clear water stuff without pulling out any media, try it. Otherwise leave the media be.

I would do a 10% water change daily until the cloudyness subsides. Test for ammonia & nitrites also, the tank isn't fully cycled until these are at 0. You would be amazed at how many aquarium & fish problems can be prevented and solved with frequent water changes. It is the simplest, most important thing.
