Hi,

We bought our first tank 7 days ago (160 litre), and have conditioned it and used Cycle, as instructed by our local aquarium. Added some plants and some unsoaked driftwood on day 3, and our first two fish on the evening of day 5. At this stage, water was crystal clear - but, woke up on day 6 and the water was veeery murky, and has stayed like that for the past 48 hours, getting worse if anything.

I'd assume the discoloration was due to the driftwood, from what I've read, but it's funny that it took 2 days for it to leech into the water. IS it pure coincedence that it turned murky within 12 hours of adding the first 2 fish (they're Gurami) ?

If it is the driftwood - I've read that it'll fade after a while, and that if we want clearer water we can do frequent partial water changes. Is this correct ?

Any advice appreciated! Pic attached!

Peter

its ur bogwood :), yes partial water changes will help, but also do u have any carbon in ur filter? if not get some because that will help :D

the partial water changes will also help with the cycling of the tank if u want ur current fish to live

please read this article in this link

Carbon should help as nightlife20 has stated.... but i've heard you should change it in a month or it loses its effectiveness and actually releases everything back into the water. I don't know this from personal experience though!
