1. If I have 2 XP3 filters, can I hook them together? Tube from tank goes to intake of filter #1. Filter #1 is filled with exclusively mechanical media. Return return from filter #1, instead of returning to the tank would plug into the intake port of filter #2. Filter #2 would be filled with exclusively bio media for bacteria. Return from filter #2 would then flow into the tank. Filter #1 would be the only filter powered up so there wouldn't be the problem of one filter starving the other of water flow.

2. I see all over that people have their Co2 hooking into the intake of their filters. If bacteria needs oxygen to live, would the addition of Co2 into the filter hamper their abilities to do their job?

I don't understand why you would want to parallel two cannister filters. As far as routing CO2 through any filter, I would give that some thought. CO2 is particularly corrosive to plastic and therefore may have an adverse effect on the filter. I would say particularly the impeller. This method may also have some impact on any warranty on the filter. There are a number of simpler and less dangerous ways to diffuse CO2. Check the DIY here and on some of the other fishy forums. I built 2 of these diffusers this weekend for about $40CAD and the time to get all the bits and pieces was longer than the assembly time. Total assembly time was about 1 hour for both, and I am not a plumber!

I would think that using one filter pump to push water through both filter canisters would stress the pump and you would get a much reduced water flow. I would think it would be better to have them running separately that way you can clean one at a time.

I would also highly recommend that you run the filters seperately. Normally people run external CO2 reactors on the return side of the filter which is by far the best way to do it.
