ok, so, ill try to approach this systematicly...
background:I live in a 1920's triplex with limited electrical outlets and wooden floors, no airconditioning in texas...
I have 3 fish tanks a 10 and 18 and a 10,
one 10 houses a juvie convict and doesnt enter into this;
the 10 is one of those all in ones....(looking at tank for type) B series bow front odyesea, the filter runs so hot that in an ambient room temp of 65 farienhiet it will run at 80 degrees with the light only being on 6 hours a day, right now the ambient temp is averaging about 80 here, so you can imagin how hot this tank gets, i can keep it at 82 or 3 with the lid open and a fan running across the top of the tank...for now
the 18 is stable with a heater set to only kick on when needed (ussually the middle of the night..
im aware, as hot as it gets here, this will not work, even for the 18 gallon when summer hits full blown, my only option and im hoping its enough water, is to switch to the 35 or 40 gallon i have thats empty si it will be more stable, i have enough supplies ie airline, airpumps, hood, valves, silicon, to diy quite a bit, here is the delima:
no stand, i know your not supposed to set tanks on the floor because of ants and just plain poor visability, i can diy something cheep!
will a cinderblock type stand work with old harwood floors (there is a lot of shifting with old floors) but im more then confidant about it(the floor) holding the tank. with a board on top of the "legs" and what do yall usde for padding? my tanks for far hav been so small, i just use a placemat, one you can buy woven under my tanks....
and second:
i baught the tank used, included were the hood, decorations, and two partial over hang filters, i have the tubing and housing for one, and the housing and motor for another
I think i have enough or most of the supplies i need to build a canister filter, but i need more information and recorses....
what do yall suggest, and can you point me to any recorses, prefurably online, but books will help too.
and do you think 40 gallons will be enough water to stabaliz3e the temp when it reaches 90 degrees during the day in my house?
ok, think thats all the info i can give
