Hi All.

First time i've done this so bear with if I look like a numptie. I have a 200 litre tank with a variety of fish, a puffer, lobster a few tetras, barbs and so on. Every one gets on fine with only the occassional squabble over some scrap of food but I've yet to need an ambulance. Enough waffle. My problem is that I get flakes of something flying out of the filter into the tank, I've cleaned the filters but I reckon it's coming off the inside of the pipes which are not easy to get at and if I could my arms are to thick to get inside them for a wipe out. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rabidric

get yourself a piece of string (length is an age old question) tie a loop in one end and fit a piece of cloth through the loop fix a six inch nail to the other end and drop it through the hose and use the string to pull the cloth through for very thin tubes use cotton a large needle and a smaller cloth.
Dave :good: hope this helps

Many thanks for that. I feel pretty stupid now cos I bet everyone else out there knows that little trick. I shall give it a go.

Once again thanks.

No need to feel stupid, just pretty, I do not think it is the first thing you think of, it is just an adaptation of rifle barrel cleaning

Just on the same topic, these pipes, are they something that need cleaning regularly?

On that, do you guys leave your filters on during feeding? as you may be filtering out food straight away and this could be causing build up?

I clean my filter tubes perhaps twice a year unless I can see there is a serious build up of crud. I use a magnet to draw the nail through initially as it is easier to go round corners.

I only turn a filter off if I am going to clean it. Food goes in the middle of the tank away from the outlets.

Yes i do leave my filter on during feeding.
I just know how to clean pipes

I've never been called pretty before! Thanks for the help, it's greatly appreciated.

Thats a really good idea and I have never thought of it!! When I clean my filter tubes I actually take them out and connect them to a hose attachment which then fits onto my bath taps, then I just run water through at high pressure which cleans them out pretty well.
