Do trumpet snails have a trap door? Are clown loaches able to eat ANY kind of snail? Or only small one, or of a certain shape?

I guess that's more than one question!

I don't know about clown loaches , never had 'em , but my skunk loaches had no problem eating them out of the shell , they both come out more at night , they do have a " trap door " sometimes mine will even pull a small piece of gravel over their opening  :dunno:

Thanks for the quick reply!

okay, I lied....yet another question!

I thought that MTS would burrow under the gravel, but 2 out of the 5 in the betta's tank are at the surface. Why? Are there problems with the water that they are trying to get away from? I noticed them there when I turned on the tank light. Were they just out for the night.....Alright that's not one question, but hey, I need to learn.

:dunno: Honestly I don't know why some don't burrow  .

I have many in my tanks , and still see a few out during daylight hours , not many .

Also you should sloowly see more and more in your tank .

I'm not too worry about them having babies. I have puffers to feed! And I'm hoping that the loaches will help to keep their numbers down. My cacs are interested in them as well, take a few pecks at them, but I'm not sure if they could/would eat one (with or without the shell).

When they first arrived, I placed them into a mason jar with some tank water to warm them up and get them moving (also to see if any were dead). I then pulled them out of the jar to put them into my 3 tanks. There are about 3 left in the jar, and one of them has "stuff" hanging/coming off of its shell. Almost as if algae was on it, or as if it were shedding a layer of its shell. Any ideas about this? I also noticed 2 teeny tiny snail in the same jar.

I had ordered some about 6 months ago , after treating my tanks for nematodes [ killed almost all of my snails I'd had for several years as well] .A couple of them had whitish green stuff on the shells , don't know if it was algae [ it did look like mold ], but it could have been some kind of calcium build up , it's gone now , I think, I don't see the same snails all the time  .

If they are still in the jar , I would just change some of the water every day or every other day for a little while .

Do the small snails look like the bigger ones at all .

They are a live bearing snail , didn't know if you new this or not .

Yep, been changing the water out every day, and yep, the teeny ones look like microscopic (obviously an exaggeration :D ) versions of the big ones......minus the color (they are white right now).

Thans for all of your info!!!
