Ok, I have yet to own any actual FISH, but right now I own a 29 gallon, 2 10 gallons and Im waiting for 2 5 gallon mini bows to be delivered. I just found the PERFECT place to put a 20 gallon tank should I ever decide to go that route. The only thing is that the table (its more of a coffee/end table) although extremely sturdy- it could easily be used for a large tv stand- is only 23 inches wide. Its a cube of wood- really, could hold the weight with no problem. But would the half inch on each side that would hang over cause too much stress on a glass tank?
Im even thinking of a 20 gallon hex to put there, Im pretty sure it would fit, but I was thinking a guppy/tetra tank and they both like alot of surface area, right?
What do you all think?
thanks again!
asparagus (which, btw if I get a green betta is what Im going to name it I think- grin).

I wouldn't risk putting a tank on a table if all sides are not supported. though I have no clue if it can be done or not.

You could maybe get a 20 gallon tall or a 30 gallon hex tank for it though...

Any physics experts here :p?

my 6.5 gallon tank is sitting on a coffee table (which has a glass panel in the middle, yikes), approx 24" by 16" - but I got a friend at work to cut a 3/4 inch thick piece of wood to fit exactly over the top of the table, to help spread the load. Seems to work fine :D

Its in a corner of the room so no disturbance

You should never place a tank somewhere where it isn't fully supported. Small tanks are usualy ok though - like the 6.5 gallon - but nothing much larger.

what if you cut a piece of wood that fit the bottom of the tank perfectly and then placed that between the table and the tank? then the tank would not just be hanging off the edge and would be supported. i think since you've only got half inches on both ends it should be ok.

Well........(sheepish grin).....
I found a 35 gallon hex that would fit perfectly on the table.
I can get the whole shebang (tank, hood, heater, biowheel filter) for about $175 US).
If I wait till Feb, I might be able to swing that.
:)
