I am moving here soon and will need to find a way to move my 55 gal tank and its inhabitants. The move is about 1200 miles (1931 kilometers).

Has anyone needed to do this and is there an easy way to do so? It is at least a 15 hour drive and I fear that the fish my be too stressed.

Any suggestions?

How much water should I try to keep. How long will my Bio-Wheels survive in a sealed container with tank water?

I know this will not be an easy endeavour but its got to be done regardless.

wow, that's a distance! I also have a 55 gal. fish only. I moved it twice,
but both times were less than fifty miles, so my preperations probably will
not help you. I would suggest getting in touch with a company that ships
fish for home aquariums, some of those fish are in cargo for 3 days.
maybe you could acquire that blue gel they use. just a thought.
good luck!

Any other suggestions???

I am so afraid to move them and lose any of them.

Would they be ok together in a 5 gal bucket w/ lid with an airstone and submersible heater for 24 hours. I plan to make the drive in one day (about 11-14 hours door to door). I can hook these up with a power inverter that will provide 2 AC sockets in the car. I'm just worried about motion issues with the fish over that time period.

If anything I guess I could try to sell them to a LFS. But these are my babies.. :-(

this is just an opinion, but I think the fish would probably make it.
your biggest problem would be your biological filter. I
do not know if the bacteria would survive that long without oxygenation(they
are anerobic bacteria).this is where you must be most prepared.
hopefully you will get some advice on this.when are you moving?

I will be moving in a month or so. I could maybe buy a converter for the car to provide two AC sockets. I could put the heater on one and an air pump on the other. That could work. There are also battery operated air pumps as well.

The LFS was mainly concerned about 6 fish being in close quarters for an extended period of time. A family member has room in an aquarium to take a few of my fish (Flame Angel, Lemon Peel Angel, and Two Damsels) but not all. I would have to keep the clowns and the Regal Blue Tang. The would address the space issue for the trip.

Craziest Idea of them all ----->One place I called had the weird idea of contacting a supplier and see about their procedures. They mentioned that many fish are tranqualized  when they are to be delivered long distances. However I feel that it may be cruel. Then again I am not a biologist. I would be worried about the effects on the fish. So thats not much of an option.

Believe me, I love my fish. I would rather sell or give them away to a person in my area that will take care of them rather than risk death.
