Hi,

A question for the forum:

I have 5 tiger barbs and 4 red glass barbs in a 16 gal. tank. They are all healthy and happy.

I am considering moving from Chicago to LA, and was wondering if there was any tried and true method of transporting these fish, or whether I am stuck giving them away to friends (would be a good home at least - larger tank).

Any advice on moving?

Thanks!

How attached are you? Is it worth the trouble they will be?

You can put most of your water in a large (huge) rubbermaid container, along with the fish. Hook your filter over the edge and let it run while you put the gravel in a bucket, covered by water. Dismantle tank. Unhook filter and you're off. When you get to your destination you can hook the filter back up while you set up the tank. It's more work than it sounds and it will be stressful for your fish. Unless you've had these fish forever (which are quite common) and are immensely attached to them, I'd just give them away.

i agree, giving them away would be the best option. the price you will pay for transporting them (asssuming you are flying) will be well higher than what you spent on the tank/heater/filter/fish/etc. i saw give the fish and tank away. keep everything else for your new tank.

lol re: Chicago kicking LA's ass  I know, I know :D
Thanks for the replies - looks like I should give the little guys away when I move.
Oh well.
