hey, I'm unfortunately having to move my fish tank a flight of stairs. It's a 19 US Gallon, and I've got a few concerns::

1)how to move the water in buckets and how much I should toss (I'd be replacing after I move it - it's water change time anyway)

2) I've heard the heater will crack if it is taken out of water for a period of time - true? and if so, how can I prevent this?

3) the tank not cracking. What is the best way to prevent cracking of the tank?

thanks a lot for any advice!

if its only goin upstairs, then u could do it as a water change, leave enough water in the tank to keep the gravel wet or covering the gravel.

turn the heater off and leave it in the water for a while... so that it will cool down, the heater will only crack/blow if it is switched on and not submersed in water... but once its cooled down its safe to transfer.

make sure theres two of u supporting the weight... and dont knock into things.

id be more bothered of ur filter not staying wet... if possible leave filter in a bucket or somthin untill its set back up in ur tank...

So do you mean save the water and have some keeping the rocks wet? or just dump the water and replace it all? (i'm assuming the first)

I would have never thought of that.

no what i mean is, u say its time u do a water change? simple a 75% water change would do ur fish a world of good, as long as u add declorinator, as long as u leave some water in the tank or if u feel uncomfertoble doin that then transfer ur gravel into another bucket adding tank water to it... and carry the tank up empty.

thats where biggest part of ur good bactiria is... if it dries up u could start a mini cycle in ur tank :/
