We are laying new carpet in my bedroom, and I must move out my tanks. The 10G won't be a big deal, but I have to move the 75G as well.
We have a spot to set it until we are finished, and my current plan is to lower the water level to 5 inches and remove 50 pounds of gravel. The fish will be left in there.

Does anyone have any suggestions of an easier/safer way to do this?

eek!

sounds like a nightmare! is there absolutly no way that you could leave it there?

are you saving the water you take out of the tank? so you dont have to refill like 90% new water??

if you do move it, make sure you support the bottom extreamly well! the weight of the water left in the tank may still be enough to crack the botton pane of glass.

good luck!

Five inches of water plus some gravel is still going to be some pretty significant weight (48"x18"x5" of water will weigh ~160 pounds).

Is there any way you could move the tank and the stand at the same time? Either through brute force, or maybe by using some of those "moving men" disk thingys that you put underneath furniture?

What you want to avoid is "flexing" the tank.

I have to agree with everyone else. Try moving the stand as well as the tank!

Oh and make sure to save your old water........and put the gravel you remove in the old water, to keep the bacteria alive for the time being. If you don't you will have a mini cycle or a large cycle.

Good Luck!

Thank you guys.
I will make sure to keep my water. I don't plan on putting back the gravel that I take out. I want to replace that with sand.

I hadn't thought of moving stand and tank at once. I was going to attempt to lift the tank off... glad I haven't done anything yet! I'm thinking of putting my silver dollar (who is still barely 2 inches in diameter) and my gouramis in my 10G until everything is back to normal. I don't want a lot of fish in the 75G while I'm moving it.

Thank you for your tips!
