Well, it is final - I am moving to another city... ;)

The travel will be anywhere between 4 hours up to 6, depending on how fast I drive...

For largish tanks, I will strip them down, separate fishes into separate buckets and save media etc...

How about tanks like 5.5g, 10g or even a 15g? Does anyone have experience in moving these easily? I'm thinking emptying out 50-70% of the water and carry the whole thing! Fishes will stay, so will plants and substrates (if any). For these small tanks, I'm sure stress points are not as severely tested during the move...

What do you think?

Yuck. I don't envy you at all. Moving without fishtanks isn't fun, let alone trying to move with fishtanks :p That being said... Even 10 gallons with substrate and a bit of water in 'em are somewhat heavy. When I moved my 10-gallon, I left the substrate and plants in it, along with a couple inches of water. I transported the fish in a bucket or in bags or something. Or maybe I took my plants out -_- Now I can't remember  When I moved the Betta in his one-gallon, I just lowered the water level a fair bit, and off we went.

That wasn't very helpful, was it? Ah well, I tried. If I can be of some help, let me know :flex:

Alternatively, I could sell all of my fishes cheap at LFS (not sure if they are willing to take all, as some are pretty small) and re-build at the new location (which is usually the most interesting part... ). May be I should only keep adult albino bristlenoses (since they breed, and is relatively rare).

Somehow I doubt they will take:

- 0.5 inch platy frys (probably over 30!)
- 0.5 inch bristlenose frys (about 20)
- 1 inch P Acei frys (10)
- 1.5 inch P Acei frys (13)

I'm gonna start calling LFSes around... ;)

When i had to move i did as you said...i bagged all my fish from my 70 and 50 gal tanks and emptyed them almost completely, there was maybe an inch of water...With my 20 and 10 i just removed 70-80 percent and the fish went for a ride. Hope it all goes easy!!

Curiously, where are you moving from, and too? I'm only asking cause i noticed you live in Canada.

Thanks - I might just go with 70% water removal and drive off for the 3 aobve mentioned tanks, for now...

I have someone who will continue to live in my house for a next while, so I can ask them to continue to feed 30 and 25g tanks, for now...

I've been living in Montreal region for the past 16 years and I am moving to Toronto area now... Markham to be exact. Can't wait... ;)

hi,
Please do not sell all of albino plecos fry,
If this is a pleco that grows only 4 inch or so, I will gladly buy 2 or 3 from you. I work in Markham, it will be close to pick them up. :kana:
How are they for eating algae? I have true SAE but they chase my corys, which I do not like. Ever since they are present in the tank, corys stopped breeding, but algea is alomst gone, I have to admit.

Sounds great! Currently all fishes are in the Montreal, but I plan to move all frys to GTA as they require more care (that is, if I cannot find a way for LFSes to take them). I will be doing this during the next few weeks.

The largest bristlenose fry I have is over 1 inch long so it is past that sensitive stage. Your mileage will vary, but my personal experience is that bristlenoses are excellent algae eaters, especially when they are hungry... I found this out when I forgot to feed them vegetables for two weeks, and all of a sudden, most of very old agae (including hair algae) were gone...
