I have a 5 inch common pleco that is in my 42g hex with a same size catfish of some sort. They fight for algea wafers all the time and I was thinking about moving the pleco into my 55g with my green terror and my two lil 1 inch plecos. Is this a bad idea and if not then do you think I can manage to catch the big pleco as he is really fast and shy.

sry but that is the most absurd statement i have ever heard

Alright well I moved him just now and he looks to be doing alright so thats that! :p

a 4 foot tank isnt too great for a fish that gets that big. they get to 14" or more if im not mistaken. so yes a 55 gallon is too small for one. most 55's are only 12" front to back. so its not even as deep as the plec

Have to agree, commons grow very large, and with others in there it would be pushing your filter to the limits and as they grow, vastly overstocked. You dont say if they're all commons, if so, it might be worth planning a bigger tank or rehoming some.

What filtration do you have?
