Pierce and Shorty are the movees. i've found the tank they're in, an Aquaview+, is pretty, but useless. the undergravel filter cannot handle any amount of the food i feed them; the teeniest bit of dust each day and after a week the water is brown and both boys are lethargic. i changed the water this morning and compared their colors, since i haven't got test kits (bad me, -adds to the list-) the old water was a semi-transparent yellow, the new was crystal clear. i found Pierce snuggled up to 'his' plant, a short and very leafy trio of red silkees, all flared up. Shorty and him were nose to nose, enjoying the clean water and soft plant.
with this disgusting discovery that the filter is bad, i've decided to move them. what's the point having it filtered when i change it every week? instead i'll send the tank to my brother so he can have a trio of Guppies in it, i'm pretty sure it could handle flake-food as it's not nearly as much as the blocks of shrimp i feed Pierce and Shorty. both boys will be moved into a Marina Betta Kit, complete with light, and will have a nice girly as a neighbor. i'm hoping this will spark Pierce up a bit and get him bubblenesting, though i have no intention of breeding them.
do you think this would be a good idea? they'd have the same amount of water (1 gallon) and three silk plants (two tall, one short) as well as a funky cave to hide in, they'd still be lighted, but they and i would have to deal with weekly water changes and every-other-day gravel sifts.
