Has anyone got any good tips when moving house with a fish tank....?? Tank is a 50 gallon with large common pleco, red tail shark and numerous other smaller community fish.

Assuming only the filter needs to be kept wet when moving I'm hoping to place the fish in buckets when transporting. I hav a 2nd small 12gallon tank which I hope to use as a temp setup until the large tank is ready...

Any comments / tips would be welcomed.....

Are you moving far?

Also, the plant on the left which is in a pot - Is it real? It will do much better if you take it out of the pot and plant it in the gravel, then it can let its roots spread out. Unless it is in the pot because the pleco keeps pulling it out? I heard plecos like to do that

Only moving 5mins away. Plant only purchased so still in pot until relocation....

Oh okay, it should be pretty easy then! Here's what I would do:

  • Net all of the fish into a decent sized plastic container (with tank water in) and put the filter and plants in there aswell
  • Take out all of the driftwood, rocks and any other ornaments and put them in a seperate container to the fish and filter
  • Remove the heater and put it in a small storage box on its own
  • Remove all of the remaining water and put the gravel in a box

Then the tank should be empty, so when you have transported everything to your new home just set it all up again.

Sorry if I missed anything out - This is just how I would do it but i'm sure others will have a different way :good:

I'd do it the same way as LucyB, although I'd take the plants and decor out first; much easier to catch the fish in an 'empty' tank :good:
