It's not urgent but by brother just moved and he lost a load of fish. I'll probably be moving in a year or so. Any advise on how to do it. Won't be a long move so can take the fish in a trip in one go.

It depends on the size of the tank really.

The most important thing is to cause the fish as little stress as possible.
transfer them as quickly and smoothly as possible and cover the container so that it is dark.
take as much water with you as possible to put back into the tank at the other end.

I do know that there are certain retailers that run a service to do this for you but this will obviously cost something.

Its a 20 galleon tank. I should be able to lift it with about an inch of water. It was heavy enough when it was empty

i also have a 20 gallon(US) so I was facing the same problem about a month ago. Luckily I did not have to move it but I did get a load of water carriers from a DIY shop for the move.

I also had to move my piranha a while back.....that was fun!!!

right so loads of carriers to carry all / most of the water. Leave water in the bottom to keep bacteria alive then put the water in and fish. and they won't know they have moved.

Sounds easy. Would some stress control product help - i noticed one of my LFS puts in in the bag before i buy fish but the other that I have bought from haven't. Does it work? and does any one know how.

don't forget to keep the filter in water too, so the bacteria doesn't get killed off in there too.
