Hi guys,
I am looking at moving home. We plan on moving less than 20 miles from current home. Less than 30 mins by car. How am I best to move my 250litre tank and fish? Complete is not an option as logistically not possible. Ideas?

Whenever I moved I had to tear down the tanks put the fish in insulated or warmed buckets. I would take the time to add aeration and minor filtration to the buckets because it might be a couple of days before you get the tank setup again. It's a lot of work and you pretty much have to do a fish in cycle in the new location. If you can it is easier if you can keep the tank in your old home during the main move then deal with the moving of the fishtank once the move is complete. Once when I was moving I actually setup a tank in a friend's basement before the move, then moved, then retrieved the tanks and set them up in my new home after all the commotion was finished.

Ensuring you have all the required materials before the move can make it easier but really there is no way of moving a 250l tank without emptying it. Good time to change your substrate or other items.

I agree: It's a complete teardown and start over. This can be a fun opportunity to fix all those little annoying things that you wish you had done differently last time.

Some good news: In my experience, filter media bacteria can stay alive for a day or so, or several days if you keep it aerated. When I rebuilt my 150g a few years ago, I put the filter media baskets in a 5g bucket with an airstone. It took me nearly a week to get the new setup done, and I never saw a trace of ammonia or nitrite.
