The big move was a huge success - no casualties so far except for the driftwood. I took the driftwood out and it smelled like a fine grade of fertilizer, and my water is now clear instead of yellow (the fishes' colors are much brighter now). Oddly enough 2 pristellas got their tailfins caught in the net and had to be pried off, but i digress...

I have a feeling that the driftwood was rotting entirely too much, and I hope this does not affect the water chemistry too much -- hopefully their health improves. I would love another piece of driftwood, but I don't want excessive rot - this wood was only about 3-4 months old. What should i do to make another piece less rot-prone? Or should I just get a fake plastic piece since I no longer have a pleco and might just get Otos?

try getting mango root or bogwood rather than driftwood, neither IME rots.
