I am still at the research stage but feel I have the gist of it together now and am in the process of buying the things I will need on top of what I already have. At present I have a 20 gallon tank with  a lamp cover, heater, internal water filter as well as an air pump for the under gravel filter I have. I have also ordered a water feature an API master test kit and a bottle of Tetra Aquasafe dechlorinator. I intend to cut off a piece about a 3rd of the under gravel filter and fix an adequate partition/divider of approx 50mm height. In this part of the aquarium I will have sand, while the other 2/3rds will have gravel and crushed cockle shells. I intend to have a lot of plants/foliage in order to create a nice marine environment when I eventually am ready to buy fish. While researching I came across several videos on YouTube on making a moving bed filter and being very practical I would find this an easy thing to do. Considering the type of tank I have detailed here would this be an asset or overkill?.

A 20 gallon tank is not very big so I would say you are trying to do too much. If you have an internal filter why do you want a moving bed filter?
